I've been battling an evap issue with my Jeep compass for sometime.
Symptoms in the order they have happened:
  1. Engine stalling and rough idling after refueling tank completely (until fuel station nozzle shut-off). Usually clears up once steady acceleration/driving for a couple of minutes.
  2. Smelled fuel after refueling for several days.
    1. replace roll over valve in fuel tank
    2. flushed fuel tank
    3. replaced fuel pump assembly and o-ring
    4. replaced fuel pump locking ring
    5. replaced fuel cap
  3. Engine still stalling and rough idling after refueling tank completely (until fuel station nozzle shut-off). Usually clears up once steady acceleration/driving for a couple of minutes.
  4. Smelled fuel after refueling for several days
    1. replaced leak detection pump on evap canister
    2. replaced lead detection pump filter
  5. Fuel Cap warning persistent on dash display.
    1. replaced fuel cap again
  6. While refueling tank fuel spilled over at tank or somewhere under jeep. The recovery tube at fill neck did not fill up.
  7. Engine stalling 10 times more often and not clearing up as quickly.
The fill tube assembly looks to be in good shape. All the evap lines look to be in good shape. The tank is in good shape. I don't see any cracks etc. in evap cannister or lines.
My assumption is the evap canister is getting flooded with fuel and/or vapors and not allowing the tank to vent properly. Although this doesn't explain the overflow.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
