Hey all, girlfriend just got a 2014 Jeep Compass Limited as a company car. Nice ride so far, but there's one issue we're having with the bluetooth that's kind of frustrating. I drive a Toyota 4Runner Limited and when I use GPS navigation on my iPhone, the directions are read through my speakers. The truck lowers the volume of whatever is playing and then reads the directions to me through the speakers at a louder volume. It's a really cool feature that I assumed was universal.

I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get the Compass to do the same thing. Doesn't make a difference if the phone is plugged in via USB or not. The only time it ever works is if she's on the phone talking through the bluetooth with the phone navigation on. We use Waze for navigation (if you haven't tried it, you should.). There's a feature in the app that allows you to choose whether you want the announcements via bluetooth or via the phone's speakers. the bluetooth option is selected. It still doesnt work.

Here's the details in summary:
Car: 2014 Compass Limited with bluetooth & touchscreen, but no navigation
Phone: iPhone 5s
App: Waze
Issue: Directions wont read through bluetooth.

Anybody have any idea on how to fix this?!

To my understanding, you will get voice turn by turn directions from your mobile phone ONLY when your head unit is in Bluetooth Mode (as opposed to FM/AM mode, CD mode, Satellite Mode, etc.). So basically, music or navigation turn by turn won't pass through the vehicle speakers unless you are in bluetooth mode.

If you are playing music from your phone, via bluetooth or USB, are you are in bluetooth mode, then that music will "dim" and you will hear the turn by turn above it.

Did you have an aftermarket head unit in your 4runner? very curious about how you had mobile navigation travel through your vehicle speakers while playing music from any source, assuming this was the case.

Thanks,

Ryan
