looking to purchase a 2022 Red Edition. I has the Highway Assist System....not Adaptive cruise or lane departure....Highway assist that senses hand placement, distracted driver, lots of other things, apparently.... I HATE IT!!!! I can't seem to find any way to bypass it. Does anyone have any info on this? If I cannot shut it down, this is a deal breaker for me...sadly, the car is beautiful and loaded with great features. Thanks!! Lisa

Do you mean Lane Assist? Just press the Lane Assist button twice to deactivate it.
No, not lane assist. It appears on this thing, you use an adaptive cruise (not a fan) and then you can either turn on highway assist or not. Highway assist has a lane keep function, but lots of other things as well... It does keep you centered in your lane with pressure on the wheel (technically, a lane assist feature), it warns you if you do not have your hands on the wheel, it warns you if you take your eyes off the road for an extended period of time...and you have to be driving on a supported road for Highway assist. I just want a "normal" cruise control option and it appears this does not have that....just adaptive cruise and optional highway assist. Not really a fan of all this stuff... My dealer is working on getting me a trailhawk without this crap!!!

Level 2 Autonomous driving (HAS) seems to combine all of the assist features. But looks like you still have to activate or deactivate it like cruise control

Have you looked in the manual?

Yes, I have read quite a bit about the system at this point.... I can either turn it on or keep it off...that solves that issue. But, this vehicle ONLY has adaptive cruise.... Not a fan of that.

It'll have normal cruise control as well.
It depends which button you press.

Top button is active cruise control.
Middle is normal cruise control.
Bottom is the speed limiter function.

No, mine doesn't look like that...I have adaptive cruise only and can turn on the highway assist.

I would talk to the dealer and see if they can help you with this.
I watched some videos and figured out how all these things work. the only cruise I have is adaptive cruise and then I can turn on the highway assist. I'm learning to live with the adaptive cruise, but I just keep the highway assist turned off...not a fan of it.

I have the Red Edition also.

I love the adaptive cruise when on the open interstate for 500 mile days. Makes for a relaxing drive. Still have to be attentive to traffic but the fatigue of long haul driving is much less. Gives you plenty of time to get around slower traffic.

I experimented with the highway assist function this past weekend. It was kind of fun. Although when giving it the beans on a tight twisty road it does not agree with what you think is a proper apex for tight corners, it fights you a bit requiring a little more steering input.

The adaptive cruise control is somewhat customize-able , I set mine to slow me down farther back, maybe 5 car lengths. This doesn't work in Illinois of course where following distance is 1/2 car length at 85mph.

The lane assist can also be dialed down, I keep mine to only give slight vibration and very low steering correction.

The highway assist surprised me. It kept me centered effortlessly around curves on the interstate even tight ones that were posted at 50 mph when I was going 74 mph.

Now that the uconnect system has updated we are very much satisfied with our Compass.

I'm getting used to the adaptive cruise and don't like, and don't use, the highway assist. I'm dropping it off this evening for the "radio fade" issue....Overall, I'm pretty pleased with it. But, it does not live up to my 2019 Renegade Limited. I loved that little ride....the 1.3t gave it quite impressive quickness and good MPG. The compass wins in comfort and it's just a little roomier!!! Plus, I love that Redline paint!!!!

Sometimes the dealer is the best place to go for answers.
Actually, my husband is the GM at our Jeep dealership. I don't think I was using the correct name for it when I was complaining to him and others at the dealership. Once we got that all figured out, they were familiar with it on the Grand Cherokees and Wagoneers.... LOL!!!
