I have had my 2016 Compass (Latitude 2.4 FWD auto) for about a year and this service is now due.

I wanted to ask the hive mind a question; given this site is full of people who know a hell of a lot more than me.

Do you recommend changing the filter in the tranny drain pan? It is not listed as part of the service (in my sources). Since the Auto has a drain plug I do not need to remove the oil pan. If I do I'll need to replace the gasket.

So; those of you who know far more than me: Should I remove pan (at least then I can clean magnets and check for damage) and replace the filter since I am under there and draining fluid any way?

Thanks!

There isn't a drain pan on the 6F24 transmission, the only pan covers the valve body, the drain plug is built into the bottom of the case.

Changing the filter requires disassembling the transmission, so I think I would pass on that.

Also make sure you use the correct transmission fluid as specified in the owners manual: "Use only MOPAR SP-IV M Automatic Transmission Fluid or equivalent."

Thank you! Yes, not looking to split the case and pull that filter. The MOPAR images were... unclear!

OK; I'll skip that filter and just change the fluid often. I can look for 'sparkles' - hopefully with 60K miles it'll be fine. I'll find out.

Thank you georgef; you're a scholar and a gent (think I said this last time? It is still true!)

I also have a 2016 jeep compass, high altitude 4 x 4 with a six speed automatic transmission. I have 90,000 km on it and I’m taking it into the dealership to have the fluid changed and the filter change in the tranny. It’s quite expensive job as I have been in
Van and needs to be replaced to do the filter at the same time so for the fluid change flush and filter of the transmission and the power transfer unit it comes to about $880 Canadian but it’s far cheaper than risking damage to your transmission by over using the fluid and causing overheating and pushing it too far so yes, there is a filter and a pan but they are one piece and they cost about 350 bucks so I would recommend doing it at your discretion but do not use aftermarket transmission fluid make sure to use the factory fluid as if you use an aftermarket such as Valvoline or another type it will cause you a hassle if there ends up to be a tranny issue after the job is done
