I have had my 2016 Compass (Latitude 2.4 FWD auto) for about a year and this service is now due.

I wanted to ask the hive mind a question; given this site is full of people who know a hell of a lot more than me.

Do you recommend changing the filter in the tranny drain pan? It is not listed as part of the service (in my sources). Since the Auto has a drain plug I do not need to remove the oil pan. If I do I'll need to replace the gasket.

So; those of you who know far more than me: Should I remove pan (at least then I can clean magnets and check for damage) and replace the filter since I am under there and draining fluid any way?

Thanks!

Bob

There isn't a drain pan on the 6F24 transmission, the only pan covers the valve body, the drain plug is built into the bottom of the case.

Changing the filter requires disassembling the transmission, so I think I would pass on that.

Also make sure you use the correct transmission fluid as specified in the owners manual: "Use only MOPAR SP-IV M Automatic Transmission Fluid or equivalent."

Thank you! Yes, not looking to split the case and pull that filter. The MOPAR images were... unclear!

OK; I'll skip that filter and just change the fluid often. I can look for 'sparkles' - hopefully with 60K miles it'll be fine. I'll find out.

Thank you georgef; you're a scholar and a gent (think I said this last time? It is still true!)
