New symptom in addition to the volume fading issue... Now the infotainment system is stuck in night mode! Tried all the usual solutions, including a factory reset, and disconnecting the car battery for several hours. My wife is pretty upset as the screen is basically unreadable in daylight. I've looked on other threads, and this appears to be another UConnect software bug. I have very hopeful that the over-the-air update that is slowly being released nationwide will fix the problem. I guess we'll see. - Impatiently waiting
For anyone interested, disconnecting the negative terminal of both batteries (main and auxiliary) for about 15 minutes solved the night mode problem. And we didn't have to reset the radio at all, so no settings were lost.

Still waiting on the software update...

Curious has anyone contacted a lawyer? This is craziness. I just bought this jeep last week and while buying it nothing was mentioned to me that they were selling me a broken radio. I literally have to use my cell phone to make calls. I work from my car a majority of the time. It’s illegal in every state to hold a cell phone now. So now every time someone calls I have to pull over quickly. If anyone has contacted a lawyer I would to speak with them. I’ve also contacted the attorney general in South Carolina to see what I can do. Waiting for a call back.

Welcome to the site! Sorry about what brought you here, however. As for your question I just read elsewhere on this site that one member lost a lemon law appeal because it was only a radio and not deemed a "substantial" defect. See post #107 in this thread: Uconnect 5 - S26.17 Over-the-air Software Update

Apparently Dewey, Huey, and Louie at Jeep's software department are working on a fix, but their attempts so far have not been encouraging.

Actually He lost an Arbitration case. He can file a Lemon Law Suit if he wants. In some states you have to go thru Arbitration first before you can file a Lemon Law Suit.

Jessica.rae.hoover: Unfortunately, If you just purchased your Compass last week I doubt you have much of a case right now. Hopefully the fix will be very soon. In the mean time
make sure to document everything that occurs just in case this continues to drag out. Some of us have been waiting a long time. A VERY LONG TIME.

Jeep sold me this car knowing it had issue and at no point during the sales process said anything to me about it. Meanwhile they are selling more and more of these as we soak and they think they are invincible because they are a huge cooperation. This is not okay. I’m still waiting for the attorney general to get back to me. No way I spent $42,000 on a new car and got all the extras to not even be able to use the extras.

You are technically correct. I was using the word in a generic, not a specific legal sense. An appeal comes after an initial decision.

IIRC, that member went to arbitration and didn't actually file a lawsuit. I have no experience in civil law, but I suspect even if someone goes to court they're not going to get much. Any payout will be a long time coming and the lawyers will make more than the consumer.

Just received the update yesterday on our 2022 Jeep Compass Trailhawk (previously on build R17.98). So far, everything has just worked. Some differences in the screen brightness, colors, etc... But we have not experienced the volume fade issue yet. I will post with updates if the issue returns. Btw, we are located in Northern VA, so the update is definitely rolling out across the country.

Went outside to shovel snow today and decided to turn on Compass High Altitude to check for software update. Jeep was in garage but I'm close to cellular tower so I have good reception even in garage. After 10 minutes it prompted me with a message to update software so I accepted it. About 10-12 minutes later update was complete. I was on version 17.98 now on 26.17. I'm in Green Bay Wisconsin and was 28-30 degrees today. I did a factory reset and reprogrammed my settings and went for a drive. Heater set at 72 degrees, music playing at 1/3 to 2/3 volume depending on song. Audio worked for 2 hours from time I started download. I had to call SiriusXM to ping my radio to reboot my subscription. So 4 months after purchase I finally have full functionality of all the features I paid for. I'm still unhappy with Jeep for not putting a "Stop Sale" on these till they had a fix for the defect. None of us should have had to go through this. Are you listening Jeep?

Got the update today in WV..so far so good. Ran the radio for almost an hour with the
heat on and no fading (fingers crossed). A few things I noticed after the update:
1) it does convert everything to the metric system, including speed so make sure you change that before you try to drive. I hit the highway before I noticed my speed was in km not miles. This can be changed under the menu —>Display—>units
2) Any phones you previously had set up. O longer work. You have pair them again.
3) Speaker volume seems to be lower. I usually have the radio on 14-16 and was driving today with it on 22-26. Not sure if they cha the scaling g on the volume of it is just not as loud,
4) Had to call Sirius to ping my radio again.
5) Didn’t like the new default background, but changed that. Reminded me of a marble countertop.

We did NOT experience any of the symptoms described in Wvjeepgirl's post (with the exception of the volume level changes, #3). We did NOT do a factory reset. Everything just works after the software update. All previous settings were retained.

I bought my Compass a couple of weeks ago and has had the issue with the radio volume lowering from day one. Sales didn’t mention the problem of course. We mentioned we had a problem with the Jeep to an acquaintance who works on Fords at the same dealership that we bought the Jeep at and he said “what the radio?”
I called my salesman and he acted like he never heard of the problem. I spoke with the service manager and he too acted like he never heard of it. I asked him how the does guy knew and he “Jeep” didn’t. He didn’t know. He swore to me that he knew nothing about it. I talked to the Ford guy again and he said they were lying, they they knew about it.Now I have nowhere to turn. Except vent online.

Point the service writer to this thread! If your dealer is stubborn, reach out to JeepCares on this site. They may be able to intercede with the dealer. They've been pretty helpful guiding others through this problem.

Hi Glenschr,

I'm sorry to hear the dealership wasn't helpful as they should've been! If you haven't received the update, feel welcome to PM our team and we can look into the next best steps to further assist you.
