Yeah, we're definitely getting screwed by the car manufacturers. Dodge has Canadian Pricing, Ford has incentives, Subaru has price adjustments. Most dealers/manufacturers are offering discounts off Canadian MSRP but unfortunately it's not necessarily bringing the price down close to the US/CDN converted price. Sure getting $3,000 of might be nice but if the difference between US & CDN MSRP is $10,000 then how much of a deal is that?
I priced out a few vehicles just for fun. A new Mustang GT convertible... base price in Canada is $39,449. Same car in the US? $31,650. That's an increase of 24.6%.
Take a new Buick Enclave CX AWD. Base price in Canada is $43,895. In the US it's $35,540. That's a price increase of 23.5%.
Neither Ford or Buick's Canadian web sites mentioned any special pricing. Will my next new vehicle be purchased in Canada.... I'm not so sure. There's lots of vehicles I'd buy if they didn't overcharge for them up here! I'm not willing to pay $40K+ for a vehicle at this stage in my life....
