Good afternoon,

I have a 2010 jeep compass and bought since new. We have about 53,000 miles and havent done the brakes on this car. Today the ABS light came on the dash and before I take it to the dealer maybe get some input from the forum member. Your opinion is greatly appreciated. Also if this is a safety issue let me know as it is our daily driver.

Thank you
JR

The ABS light came on because a sensor somewhere was tripped. Ask around local parts shops and see if they can pull the code from the ABS light. I'm not sure if anyone does that for free, but if it's something simple they might just drop the code read charge if you wind up buying the part you need from them. Good luck!

This is straight from the 2010 Jeep Compass Owner Manual:

Anti-Lock Brake (ABS) Light
This light monitors the Anti-Lock Brake System
(ABS). The light will turn on when the ignition
switch is turned to the ON position and may
stay on for as long as four seconds.
If the ABS light remains on or turns on while driving, it
indicates that the Anti-Lock portion of the brake system
is not functioning and that service is required. However,
the conventional brake system will continue to operate
normally if the BRAKE warning light is not on.
If the ABS light is on, the brake system should be serviced
as soon as possible to restore the benefits of Anti-Lock
brakes.
If the ABS light does not turn on when the
ignition switch is turned to the ON position, have the
light inspected by an authorized dealer.
