So....my '07 has decided to act up again even though it feels like I've already replaced all the tie rods/bushings/sway bars/control arms etc. I could find...maybe I missed a few.

I've got another rattle that occurs over relatively large, repetitive bumps at speeds around 20-30 mph. It sounds like a metal on metal clatter; any ideas? I'm thinking maybe worn bushings or a tie rod end?

I also have a rumble that has been present for over a year now, I've just been unable to figure out where exactly it's coming from and what it is. At any speed, it's a pretty low rumble that occurs at any wheel position, but now it's gotten so bad that if the bumps are large enough, I feel my entire steering wheel loosen as if the tire will literally fall off and only feel like I've regained control when on a level surface...even still though, on a seemingly smooth road, the low rumble persists and just never seems to go away unless the Compass is parked...

does anyone have ideas on what could be causing either of these two issues? Thanks in advance.

Not sure but I had an old Cherokee that like you said when hit a large bump would feel like wheel was going to fall off later got worse and would also shake real bad when hitting a bump, it turned out to be the shock on the front stabilizer. less then 25 dollars and 15 mins to repair. Hopefully yours is something so easy. Good luck.

It could be a strut tower but which. Depends and I don't think you'll find it unless its up on a hoist either.

from the service manual - it lists the following things to check if you have a "rattle or excessive clunk"
1. Power steering gear loose on engine cradle/crossmember.
2. Loose strut assembly mounting fasteners at tower or knuckle.
3. Excessive play in outer tie rod.
4. Engine cradle/crossmember mounting fasteners loose at frame or bushings worn.
5. Wheel mounting (lug) nuts loose.
6. Power steering hose touching the body or frame of vehicle.
7. Stabilizer bar link joints worn (occurs with steering input only when moving, not stationary).
8. Loose lower control arm mounting bolts at engine cradle, frame or crossmember (occurs with steering input only when moving, not stationary).
9. Loose intermediate shaft or column.
10. Lower control arm pivot bushing worn (occurs with steering input only when moving, not stationary).
11. Internal power steering gear noise.
12. Loose inner tie rod.
13. Damaged engine cradle/crossmember.

You pretty well need it on a hoist and a big Jimmy bar at least and maybe a jack to push pull and check all that. I believe they've listed the entire front end including the engine mounts.
I know with the weight on the wheel like when I am doing my oil change (just done two days ago, about 4500Km on it) and it seemed tight.
