There are many suggestions on how to keep clean our wiper blades, reduce the nosying sounds and making a smooth wipe.
Today this is what I like to do. 0000 steel wool is great at removing all the oils ,grime, tar, etc from the wind shields. It smooths out the glass too. Do NOT use any other steel wool , use only 0000 grades for glass, Or you may scratch the windows.
I prefer isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) to clean my wiper blades on fiber towel. Pinch and clean one end to end of the rubber on the blades. May need to do this multiple times till very little black is showing.
Note it helps to spray oil on the wiper blade hinges. After spraying lift it up and down a few times.

Always use Automotive glass cleaners (not at-home house glass cleaners)

Many people promote WD-40 for cleaning wiper blades. It does remove most of the grime. WD-40 is a petroleum base and the rubber blades do-not go well together, reduces the life of the rubber blades.
Yet it is highly promoted on the web and you tube sites. People will swear how wonderful WD-40 works.
It will always be up to you of what to believe.

Kona, Hawaii averages 19 inch’s to 40 inches in the higher elevations. Hllo,Hawaii is the rainiest town in America averages 130 inches or 10 feet of rain a year.

When we travel to Hilo we always clean our wiper blades and windows.
How do you keep your wiper blades and windows clean.?

Rain-X is a fantastic product. Currently I am just using the Rain-X wipes. Spray on Rain-X does a better job.
Manufacturers design wiper blades to last just 6 months (often times year.) Silicone’s wiper blades can last one to two years.

We purchase our wiper blades from Costco just under $8.00 each. Goodyear brand. We often will buy extras. Kona hawaii gets lots of sunshine and our vehicles have NO garage or shelter the ,wiper blades take a beating.

Can manufacturers make life time wiper blades? Yes I had a pair from the early eighties Lifetime wiper blades . It lasted over 15 years. company went out of business. The triple wiper blade was still in great condition, but the the parts holding the wiper blades made mostly out of plastic and fell apart.
These were the best wiper blades ever made!

+1 for Rain-X. But if you have rain sensing wipers, avoid that part of the windshield. When done putting it on, you can wipe the wiper blades with the cloth you used to put it on. If you really want smooth wipers with good cleaning, look for the silicone blade ones ($$$).

Good point about the “Graphite coatings” on wiper blades. Wiper blades do wear out the graphite coatings over time. But it might be wiser to use detergent/ soap. Thank you for mention this.

This reminds me of a great prank my buddy pulled on his girlfriend at the time. He told her that whenever you put on a new set of wiper blades, you have to sharpen them by running them dry a couple of times. Kind of like you set your brakes after you first install new pads / rotors.

Fast forward a couple of years after they'd already broken up, she has her new boyfriend in the car and proceeds to 'sharpen' her new blades. New boyfriend asks her what she's doing and she explains. My buddy gets a call from her directly afterwards: "Jeff, you're such an a-hole! Wipers don't need to be sharpened!!" 😂😂😂

Right up there with telling a new car owner to make sure their alternator fluid is topped off before a long trip, haha.

I use a product made by 3in1. it's rubber protectant and preservative that was made for RV's
You should give this product a try. I have been using the same wiper blades for 3 years on my Jeep compass and for 6 years on my Fiat 500x Trekking Plus with good results.
No noise or squeaks.
