Yesterday, for the first time, I heard a sound coming from the front passenger side of the compass. It sounded like it was near the dash/windshield. It is very loud and almost sounds like the windshield is trying to crack apart. Sort of sounds like rocks hitting the windshield maybe. Kind of hard to explain but it is very loud. It seems to happen whenever the body flexes and/or goes over a bump. Has anyone else experienced this noise? It came out of nowhere. It's not TOO cold here - highs in the 20s F during the day - so I don't know if it's temperature sensitive or not. It wouldn't bother me if it weren't so damn loud. The first time I heard it I was waiting to see a crack form in the windshield. Any ideas of what it might be?

I would report it to the dealer immediately. Even over the phone first. There may be a TSB on this. Once it cracks its too late. You'll be out your deductable at least unless its well documented and they admin there are problems with some vehicles haveing an improperly installed windshield. You can also call Chrysler customer service and report directly. They can have a specialist inspect it if they wish to confirm the problem. Either way you're covered. Doing nothing, covers you for nothing!!

I doubt you have zero or even $50 deductable.

Well, now this might come as a HUGE shock (throwing in some sarcasm here...lol) but it has stopped since I posted this. It is warmer today than it was yesterday. It did it this morning but I didn't hear it on my way home for lunch or on my way back to work. Now if it comes back, which I'm sure it will, I'll be contacting them about it. Maybe I can get someone to ride with me so they can hear it. I'm just wondering what happened since it never made a noise like this last year and now the noise is gone (for now anyway). More ghost noises from this Compass.
Had the windshield been installed improperly, why would over a year pass before I heard any noises? I had this Compass last winter and never once heard anything remotely close to this noise.
But, like I said, if the noise comes back, I'll be calling them. It's too loud of a noise to ignore. I did want to get a sound clip to post on here, but, like I said, the noise stopped.

lucy2423 - good idea to let the dealer know if it comes back. Maybe actually go in and get it documented.
Also, if it does happen again, try to remember to record it. It might be awhile before it happens again. I didn't find any related service bulletins.

I didn't hear the noise at all yesterday. Today is colder and I did hear it, just a little bit, on my way back to work after lunch. It wasn't loud enough to be recorded. I really tried to pay attention to where it's coming from. It almost seems like maybe the A-pillar or the dash. I swear it sounds like the antenna is smacking on the windshield - that's the sound it makes. Maybe when I go home after work it will be worse so I can capture the noise!

Update on this... When it got colder here again this year, the noise resurfaced - probably even worse than last winter. Out of desperation, frustration, and stubbornness to not take it to the dealer, I sprayed the area with wd-40 - outside and inside. I'm not sure if this is actually fixing the issue or what but I haven't heard the windshield make the noise since. I probably just jinxed it and the noise will come back today. lol But since I've done it we've had temps all over the place and I haven't heard a peep yet.

Noises, popping etc have a limited time of coverage. At this rate you'll inherit it without resolution. I've shaken my head a few times but glad others have essential said the same thing I did last year. :hay:

Right. Take it in when it doesn't make any noise. They'll EASILY be able to figure that out now!!
I don't understand why you guys think my dealership is always able to help with every little thing. I've taken my Jeep there numerous times and they have never helped diagnose anything for me - with various issues/noises. They're not perfect and can't always help. So why should I keep wasting my time with them when all I ever hear is "We couldn't find anything wrong."???
You people sure know how to take joy away from a person. I was proud of myself for getting rid of the noise and you all come along and rain on my parade. No wonder why I haven't posted on here for awhile. I probably won't anymore if you guys can't be happy that I figured out how to get rid of the noise. I've read on other forums of people doing similar things for similar issues with this noises and the responses were good. So I thought I'd share on here in case someone else was having the same problem. On here...you get a lashing that you didn't take it to the dealer. You people are strange. I thought I was sharing a tip but I'm starting to understand that the only "tip" that anyone wants to hear on this forum is TAKE IT TO THE DEALER. What's the point of the forum then if every issue is supposed to be addressed with the dealer? Stupid. Apparently nobody on here knows how to actually resolve any issues. Good information to know.
Boo to you!
I'm out of here and I won't be posting anymore. This place is a joke.

Ouch my back hurting from that Cat-of-Nine tails lashing. Wow
Ok we've talked before. So maybe something was out of context or quickly worded to incur a good thrashing or lashing. I got it though.

Point being.
- warranty will end quickly on those issues
- when the dealer opens a work order for a problem and can't locate or fix the problem. You can go back even after it has finished to get it resolve. That is why it needs to be taken in if for no other reason other than documenting it.
- you may need to select some other dealer if your current one has not been able to find any problem you've had (up to you)
- I do and did take mine in to several deals often with a suite of trouble and eventually fixed. Never the first time but eventually. I didn't like it but I was not going to do the repairs myself if its their responsibility.

MAYBE JEEPCARES CAN POST ONTO THIS

Ok I've been truly trashed and lashed with a Cat Of Nine Tails. Ouch...

Well the point I think is that if its not reported and on a work order. You're SOL after the warranty is up on that type of thing. I am sure a competent dealer (maybe you need to go to another one) can isolate and/or figure out what is causing the noises. They have access to Chrysler databases on problems and resolutions.

It good you take an interest in fixing you auto troubles but this is the responsibility of the dealership and/Chrysler to fix at the end of the day.

MAYBE JEEPCARE WOULD LIKE TO ADD TO THIS BEING A DEAL REP AND ALL

I am going to go lick my wounds now and have a cold one. I can just see lucy thrusting her body about and wiping the walls with whatever is within reach there. Good thing for me, I think I am just out of reach.
