I have a 2007 Compass that we recently bought. It only has 10k miles on it but when driving, it makes a lot of noise. More than my jeep wrangler.

I thought it might have been tire noise, but the tires have plenty of tread left.

Any other suggestions?

That's pretty vague........ What kind of noise are you talking about? Popping, grinding.... Where is it coming from? Remember, it's a machine with a LOT of both moving and stationary parts....

That is true, however the noise is considerably more than my 07 jeep wrangler. Which is surprising.

The noise sounds like a rubbing or grinding. Like a loud Whoosh, Whoosh. Similar to the noise tires with extremely low tire tread make.

We get the noise when:
Braking; however, have been told the brakes are fine (the car was inspected literally 3 weeks ago by a trusting mechanic)
Driving at higher speeds; again the tires are in good shape. Plenty of tread left.

I am thinking it could be a lack of sound proofing between the engine compartment around the foot wells. Just wondering if others have noticed their Compass louder than other vehicles.

Not as loud as my TR6 is, joking, and not as loud as my BMW was.
In fact, I find it very quite, like when I stop I have to look at the tachometer to remember if I turned of the car before I lift off the clutch.
I think the sound insulation is very good.

Damn OE Tires...

What kind of tires ya got? The factory rubber is very loud. It sounded as if the tires were trying to beat the road into submission.
I was going to say the same thing. The Firestone's esspecially! Out of a 10 they were rated at 3.9 as far as road noise... And I know the Bridgestones didn't fair too well either maybe around 5 somewhere (off of tirerack)...

One would think that a car company would spend "less" money and put on good tires when it comes off the line.... It seems like the OE tires are always expensive to replace - BUT THEY SUCK!

My Goodyear F1's on my Cali SRT4 are almost 200 per - and they don't fair well against the competition at all.

Well, as an update, I think it is the tires. I actually rotated them a couple of weeks ago and it helped as I was getting some cupping on the front tires. But I have a feeling until I need to replace them, I will just have to deal with it.

I agree. i was a bit disapointed when i bought my compass with the quality of the factory tires. I honestly can't wait until i can justify replacing them... Not to mention, it'll give me a chance to put some more agressive tires on. =D

I've replaced my front two with Kumho's kh11. and have to say pretty impressed !!!
good price , great wearing, good traction and not a bad lookin tyre!!
OE were continental premiumcontact 2's. very easily blown and torn and twice the cost of Kumho's.

BMs

They were nice, solid running cars . . . I am glad that the Jeep Compass has lived up to my expectations and has made a wonderful replacement.
Interesting thing, my son has a contemporary 3 series, and though I love most of its features, it has lost a bit of charm in the modern dashboards, in my opinion.
