07 compass , first off the abs sensor at the right rear has rusted off .When i hit about 15 mph the emergency brake light comes on yet the E brake has never been touched . I did a routine inspection and the rear pads were worn and the left rear needed a rotor it was pitted pretty badly .I checked the emergency brakes and they seem fine to make sure i backed them all the way off. I took it out for a test drive seemed fine then all of a sudden the E light came on . No noise or anything just that damn light then i started to smell brake pad burning and there was a slight bit of smoke on the lr wheel .When i did the service the sliders were cleaned and lubed caliper was free .What is making the emerg brake come on ????:spinning:

There is a switch usually near the pull arm area (exactly on this I don't know). It along actives the light. Other than a wiring issue its likely failed or the lever is up a bit higher than it should. You can try wriggling it downward and see if the light goes off or on again.

The brake system is 100% mechanical. it doesn't come on to indicate a fault only if the lever handle is up. You spent a lot of time in the wrong areas.

Then why does it only come on once you have hit about 30 and the left rear brake is smokin which would tend to point to the rear brakes ,Emerge handle never been touched ever but its a compass and it could be anything thanks

Well if it smoking its dragging or hung from rust. Either way when you are parked moving the brake lever up/down will normally toggle the light off and on. Brake have ABS light normally to alert a problem other than the master cylinder which may share the same E-Brake light circuit in some vehicles.

I guess you have to fix what is causing you brake smoking. the Calipers on these are know to hang partially closed and drag wearing the pads which would case that. I had one go like that on mine. If its the rotor pads and not the e-brake shoes then your caliper is likely the culprit even though it appears to move.
