So about a week ago I was backing out of a parking space and the backup camera didn?t need turn on. The touch screen was blank and didn?t come on for about a mile. Later that day I start it up ... no backup cam, low fuel light on when I have a full tank, and service engine warning light comes on. I take it to the dealership the next day and they say ?something tripped a circuit, we reset it and it?s a working fine now. Four days later all the same problems occurred again ... they clearly didn?t fix the problem. Oh boy electrical issues!

Oh so I have no clue why the title of my post says ?problem solved? ... since I didn?t type that and the problem definitely isn?t solved ... predictive text on my phone must have sabotaged me without me realizing it!

If they reset the computer and the problem went away, it could be a systems problem and not really physical. This is just a guess. Did they say anything when you told them it appeared again?

Took it back in. "Bad HVAC module"... was basically causing everything on the same circuit to go haywire. They overnighted the part and should have the vehicle back by Monday. 1280 miles ... 3 trips to dealership for issues ... at least I do truly love the vehicle.

So shortly after the problem was “fixed” it all happened again... low fuel light comes on with over a half tank of gas, backup camera won’t come on, entire screen is dead ... hvac blowing full force cold air, and now the turn signals won’t work either ... also there was a “service shifter” message that popped at one point. So it’s been in the shop now for over a week and nothing ... day one I went in to pick up my loaner vehicle and spoke with the lead mechanic who pretty much told me they have no idea what is causing the problems. Horrible timing too as northeast Ohio just had our first major snowstorm and I’m stuck driving a 2wd Chrysler 200 that will barely make it up my steep driveway. I’m beyond frustrated now and reading up on lemon laws. This sucks because the Compass literally checks every box for what I want in an SUV otherwise.

Posting here as well, as I have a feeling our issue is also electrical.

Just purchased a 2018 Compass Latitude. Drove it ~400 miles without issue, then an hour into a trip on a highway, the "Electronic Stop Start Unavailable Please Service" error came up. It disappeared after a restart of the car, and everything seemed fine. To play it safe, we took it to the dealer but they couldn't find anything as it didn't even throw an actual code.

A few days later, the same error comes up again for my wife, and then the Check Engine Light came on. Power steering completely failed as she was driving. A restart and it was back to normal, aside from a check engine light.

Car's been sitting at the dealer through the New Year holiday. Waiting to hear back. I'm assuming it's either a grounding issue with the electrical system or a computer issue.

Ironically, my sister's 2015 Jeep Cherokee had the same power steering issue and error a day later. The only common denominator we could come up with was cold temperatures, but she's had the car for a couple years and it's been in colder temps without issue.

It's a shame - up to this point the new Compass has been impressive. Hoping this is a minor gremlin that we won't see again. will keep everyone posted on the solution.

@BrandoP71 - funny story, as I'm actually on hold with Jeep customer service right now and pulled up this forum while I wait.

No, the problems were not fixed. So far they have done multiple software updates (2 trips) changed out some HVAC "transfer switch" or something (1 trip), and most recently changed out the radio (2 trips). Counting the initial transmission issue I experienced on day one, I am now at 6 trips to the dealership in not even 4 months of ownership, or it may be 7, I'm seriously losing count. They are playing paperwork games with me and still have yet to provide paperwork on the last 3 trips ... clearly trying to make 3 trips appear as one since Ohio has a 3 strikes and you're out Lemon Law ... keep giving me excuses "ehhh the paperwork isn't ready, it will be ready next week we'll call you when its in" then the problem resurfaces and I have to bring it back in anyways before "the paperwork is ready" so they count it all on the same ticket when in actuality what they did to try to fix it didn't work and its a separate trip.

I have also had the "service start/stop" message, and I have also had some message about the battery charging and stop/start available. At times the turn signals won't work, and most recently the locks have been locking/unlocking randomly as I'm driving down the road. So all clearly electrical / computer issues, and nothing they have done has fixed it.

It is a shame as I truly loved this vehicle ... the look, the driving feel, interior quality, off road features, etc ... but this is a nightmare. Good luck to you.

Thanks for the quick response! Doesn't sound promising. I since got a call back from my dealer saying they tried updating the software and immediately got the issue again. They are moving on to other troubleshooting tomorrow. I'm already worried we are heading down the same path as yours.

Would you mind sharing anything Jeep says?

Update: Dealer tested and confirmed that the secondary battery that the Electronic Start Stop (and I'm assuming other systems) rely on was bad. They're replacing it tomorrow and re-testing. They also mentioned that they have another 2018 Compass coming in tomorrow with the same ESS issue.

Will report back as I hear more.

I talked to Jeep “Resolutions Department” ... they want me to try another dealership ... called the next closest dealer and they seem want nothing to do with it ... guy tells me it’s going to be two weeks until they can even look at it. I just want out of my lease at this point. Was told by the resolution specialist that it takes 4 failed attempts and I’m on failed attempt 3. I explained this is incorrect as they fudged the paperwork to make the last 3 attempts appear as one and I’m actually on 5 or even 6 if you count a separate issue I had it in for that now I wonder if it’s related (service 4wd message and 4wd not engaging). Again ... good luck to you.

Reading back now I’m like is it 7 attempts ... I need to look at my notes ... it is that crazy where I’m at the point where I can’t even remember how many times I had it in ... definitely more than 4

I don't know what this secondary battery is. My '15 Cherokee KL with the 3.2L had the ESS on it. I always turned it off. Anyway, there was only one battery in it. That part of the Jeep never gave me a problem. Original battery at 66k miles when I dumped it for this MP. All in cold climates.

So sitting in the waiting room of another dealership while they are waiting for a Chrysler technical specialist to call them back. New problem I discovered is 4wd modes won’t work when it’s acting up... a “drive mode unavailable” message pops up when I tried putting it in 4wd lock or snow mode etc. New dealership confirmed the codes showing and that the problems exist at least... now I wait.

I've been keeping my notes in this thread: http://www.myjeepcompass.com/forums/2nd-gen-jeep-compass-forum-general-discussion/36674-2018-jeep-compass-issues-3.html#post111394

The saga continues for me as well.

Also got the "4WD unavailable". This is all related. Aux battery replacement didn't fix anything. Dealer's working with FCA on this now...FCA told them to unplug the battery for a while and let all systems fully reset. Dealer doesn't like that answer, fired back. FCA went radio silent. So that's where I'm at.

If there's a silver lining here it's that there's several of us with the same issue. If you want, have your dealer reference Tri County Dodge Chrysler Jeep in Limerick PA's open ticket with them for similar issues. There's an open dialogue there and the more of these people that work together, the better.

I was nearly killed having the same issue in NYC. My car said "check engine" and went from drive to park in a quick jolt. Stopped in the middle of traffic to turn it off and on multiple times to move it to the side of the road unsuccessfully where it then started to move backwards only and not forward - mind you this is NY with tons of cars within reach of being hit by my truck moving backwards. The car was leased last week and has 600 miles. This is beyond ridiculous. I couldn't even get a tow or loaner without a fight. Im very disappointed and scared to ever touch this vehicle again.

Thanks for the info! It definitely has to be all related. I even have another thread somewhere on here about the very first day I picked my Compass up, it had an 4wd issue that I had to turn around and go back to the dealership. Of course they didn't give me paperwork, and I was too excited about the new vehicle to care at that point thinking it was all fixed. Also, I might as well just start posting my updates on your thread since its pretty much the same problem and I can't get rid of the ridiculous ? ? that randomly showed up in my topic.

So after sitting all day in the waiting room, I left the new dealership in a 3 year old beat up Dodge Dart. They told me the Compass is clearly experiencing major electrical issues and their concern is that it is not safe to drive. I have to wait for a technical specialist to show up and look at it. They said it could be a few days. Roads are still bad in NE Ohio and we are expecting 5-8" of snow on Friday. New dealership is much friendlier and seems more open and honest with me than the place I had been going, and at least was empathetic, but here I still am driving a $17,000 front wheel drive loaner in the dead of winter while I'm waiting on a $35,000 4x4 vehicle sitting in a shop that I have barely been able to use for the last 3 months.

Push for a 4 WD rental. You are paying for a 4x4. It'll be covered by the warranty. Don't settle for a crappy dealer loaner.

The added expense will add to the pressure for them.

They put me in an Enterprise Ram 1500 Big Horn ? they said it has to be an FCA product for warranty work.

2018 Jeep Compass Electrical Issues

Same issues in my brand new 2018 compass. Rear window rolls up and down by its self, Engine running screen comes on, door open dash alert comes on, interior lights turn and and off by them selves, etc. Been to the dealer 3-4 times already and every time, the issue stops for a few weeks and then comes back, sometimes even worse than before. They replaced the master window switch and the OBD, but the issues keep coming back. Was told this morning b the dealership service dept. that Chrysler/Jeep tries sending an update out to all vehicles and that it caused many electrical problems for many owners. I find it strange that this would do that to mine since I have had these issues since the start. Not sure what to do as I really like the car, but paying for a brand new broken vehicle that I cannot use is ridiculous. I paid a lot for this car and am very disappointed.

Anyone have any luck with similar issues?
