Hello everyone,

I have a 2017 second gen compass with 17,000 miles on it, while on the highway this evening it went into what seems to be limp mode. The service engine light came on as well as dashboard message “service engine” message on the screen. I let the vehicle sit for about 20 minutes off, restarted it and the light is no longer on the screen as well as the limp mode is gone.

I will see if I can pull a code tomorrow if it is still stored.

Has anyone had this issue as well?

Hi Mesclez,
We're sorry to hear about your experience. Are you considering having your dealer look into this? If so, please keep us updated. If additional assistance is needed throughout your service visit, please feel free to send us a PM.

Get your own scanner like a quality bluetooth one (OBDLink MX would be a good choice). If the software that comes with that doesn't pull up much look into AlfaOBD, its android and windows (laptop) only, but it can do more specific things with this particular car (I'm assuming yours is a 2nd gen?) With this you can pull the code before it disappears, screenshot anything of interest to show to your dealer.

If its repeatable but no codes get a $14 dash cam off amazon and set it up where it can see the dash and the lights and speedometer and all that with hopefully the road in the background, somewhere that is safely out of your way of driving (read: don't try to mess with it or record video with your phone while driving!) so you have a way to capture proof that this issue happens. When it does and your camera is recording say the date and time and describe whats happening, etc. Capture 1-3 events and put it on youtube, then cram it down your dealers throat. I have found they respond well to public video proof of their cars being piles of crap.

Hi Musclez,
I am sorry to hear that. Because our team is not mechanically trained, we do rely on our dealers in the field to diagnose vehicle concerns. If this becomes easier to replicate or you decide to visit your dealer again to see if they are able to experience this first hand, please let us know.

Finally got the Compass in to the dealership and the wiring harness from the factory was not secured and rubbed somewhere on the drivetrain causing the check engine light and the short in the harness. Unreal typical FIAT
