My daughter has a 07 compass that stalls infrequently when turning, I have read that disconnecting the battery will reset the computer could fix. Is this true or will be causing other problems ? :dunno:

Thanks, Gary

Could be a gas tank issue the new ones have recall and maybe some old builds as well. There is a post about this I read this morning. Check with the dealer if there is a recall for your gas tank as a issue.

My wife's 07 would stall out sometimes last winter when stopped or making turns from a stop. That was the 1st winter owning it. During the summer We've swapped out the battery (as it was the factory battery) and had to put in a new Alternator. It hasn't stalled with this cold weather at all.

However The Check engine light did just come on Friday. I think it has something to do with the Evap system if I remember correctly. The same thing happened last spring when temps would change about 40 Degrees between day and night like it has been for the past few days. Last spring I just cleared the code and that was the end of it but Since I got an extended warranty on it I'm taking it to my mechanic to have him look over it.

Odd that it would. There must have been and electrical connection issue and movement of the battery/cables when making the turn. I cannot think of any other connection for that symptom. He could based in this info. Remove the battery cables. Clean the posts and cable ends for clean contacts and see how it goes. But if its still the original battery replace it outright since is very old and past the max design life as it is.

Another thing I must note is all my stalls happened when the engine was still cold/warming up. Once at normal temp it ran a lot smoother but still could feel a attempted stall every now and then.

My battery replacement came about b/c it died and the alternator replacement was done b/c I started to notice issues with it a month after I replace the battery. (there was 65K on it when replaced) which from what I read the Alternators start to go on 07 models about then.

After realizing there was an issue the the alternator I put my scan gauge on the compass and watched the voltage when driving the engine cold. The volts would flux when making turns from a stop and would correspond with the engine wanting to stall. I know volts go up and down a bit when driving is normal but at times it would drop to like 11-12 then jump backup while vehicle is running. It did throw off check engine lights when doing this. At this time too you can hear bad bearings on the alternator too.

I was monitoring the vehicle again back in January when had the extreme cold. To see how it was running and it's been doing a lot better obviously with maintaining proper voltage when engine is cold or warm. and haven't had a "Stall turn" ever since the Alternator replacement.

I agree with replacing the battery if it's old. Old battery's can cause all sorts of strange problems.
