Good Morning All, I'm completely rebuilding the steering and suspension on my 07 Compass Limitied 4x4. I am also replacing both CV half shafts while everything is taken apart. I lost some fluid when the axles were removed and was wondering if I can just measure that fluid and refill that amount? It's my understanding that the fluid is all part of the transmission (CVT) and PTU, so do I really need to take it to the dealer to have the fluid checked? Thanks!

It is part of the CVT. It happened to me in an A-arm ball joint replacement my shaft came all the way out and I lost quite a lot of fluid in the process. I believe that damaged the CVT seal as well as it also leaked slightly after it was reassembled. Given what could go wrong I had to have the dealer finish the job and top off the CVT fluid. Given the cost of the CVT I strongly recommend arranging an appointment for CVT fluid top up. Drive it straight there.
