I read on here about the problems with the gate not closing in the cold, and now that there is a cold snap here, mine is not closing either. I have to slam it 5 - 10 times, and not little slams either, before it will close all the way, otherwise only to the safety catch.

Is there any solution to this problem.

And my mileage still sucks, in this cold snap 15.35L/100 or 18.4MPG (15.3US MPG) :(

My solution? I put my foot down hard on the very bottom of the hatch and push. I realize there is a very small risk of denting/bending the metal, but it seems to work at getting it closed. I do that after banging it about 10 times hoping I don't have to resort to stepping on it.

It's kinda hard to fix because it only does it when it's really, really, really cold (usually -30). Once it warms up it's fine so there's basically no use in having the dealer replace the latch... or is there?

If the problem is moisture freezing a spray of WD40 on the locking assembly would help.

Mine seems to act up once it is in the mid -20's but since it has not crept above -20 in weeks now, I have just opted to use the back seat instead of the hatch, but I am going to try some WD40, it is supposed to warm back up some later this week.

It's been running around -25c to -35c for the last week (not including windchill else it would be -35 to -45). We went shopping for grocieries last night and had no problem with the hatch. Infact the wife went and washed the jeep about a week ago and I was expecting something to freeze up. So far no problems.
