We live in Texas and my wife went to Oklahoma for a short day trip, on her way back she accidentally ran over a piece of debris in the road. It turned out to be a piece of a deer antler which punctured her tire. The repair kit included was not sufficient for the tire damage.. needless to say, she was stranded 3.5 hours from home, and insurance would not cover the price of a new tire. It’s not like she had a spare available to put on and drive home. I would not purchase this vehicle now knowing that it doesn’t come with a spare tire. Sure, you can say their will never happen to me, but then when it does, you are screwed.

Agreed, the pump is useless in most cases. If you see a tire getting soft you can just go to a gas station or convenience store for air. Who needs the pump? My tire place adds air for free, and also does plug & patch for free.

If it's a catastrophic failure like your wife's tire was, you have no choice but to use a spare. If no spare you're sunk.

Your dealer will promise to order a spare tire kit for you, but it will never come. I've been waiting since 2018. If it ever comes I'll offer it to you first! I made my own kit by saving the best of my old tires, buying a wheel with the same bolt pattern ($100). I already had a cross wrench and a scissors jack. I put the air pump in there, too (why not?) and there's still room under there for some basic tools and misc. stuff.

The reason there's no spare is to reduce weight in order to improve fuel economy. Just think of all the gas you'll save! And how much fuel AAA will use sending a hook to rescue you. Kinda like the auto stop/start system. It saves gas in the short run, but wastes it in the long run. I digress. I'm glad your wife made it home safe.

I have a 2021 Compass and had the same thing happen with a nail before 1k miles. I had to have it towed to the dealer because the kit sprayed all of the goop onto my wheel liner. To top it off the tech at the dealership set my wheel face down on the concrete and scraped it all up, tried to say it came in that way… in the end, spare tires were on back order for $850 when I tried to order one even though I was told it had one when I purchased the vehicle. Lesson learned to open EVERYTHING before taking delivery. I hate this car… lol

Can you advise where you got the wheel from? What size are your original rims?

Thanks

I just told my local dealership what I wanted. I got a generic replacement that was not identical in appearance but had the same rim size and bolt pattern. Different trims have different wheel size, but according to Discount Tire the bolt pattern is the same for all: 5x110. Discount Tire | Tires and Wheels for Sale | Online & In-Person

I hate to tell you bro but MOST vehicles don't come with a spare kit now unless you buy them separately, yeah I agree it sucks. I saved the spare kit out of my Dart. I've transferred it to every Compass I have bought justso I would have a valid option. The only way you get a spare is in the Trailhawk (or maybe the High Altitude). I have a Limited and it only came with the same "firm handshake and good luck" option in yours. My best advice is to scare up a jack kit at the local pick a part and either a doughnut from the same or an aftermarket steelie you can mount a real tire on.
