Hi all,

I'm currently looking to upgrade my head unit from 230 REQ to 430N RHB or 430 RBZ.

just wondering are there any sub output?
since im planning to upgrade my audio system so im looking to get a monoblock for the sub.
i remember reading some where they said that the sub output act as a filter that will out put only low frequency.

PS i've seen on http://www.allpar.com/stereo/MyGIG-REN/index.html showing that the head unit doesn't have a RCA output

On point to your question, the upgrade sound system has a sub woofer component, there has to be a cross over somewhere. I would guess it would be off the component amp that mounts near the spare tire rather than the head unit itself.

That said, he's ^ right that aftermarket can get you to your fuctionality goals for a WHOLE lot less than going factory. BUT, it is also a truth that nothing fits as well as factory parts.

The base harness for the factory set up is probably there, so once you assemble all the things related to the head unit it should all be plug and play. BUT there are a number of "things" that connect to that harness in addtion to the factory head unit. And considering the crazy factory parts mark up, the sum cost of all those things will make you wallet whimper big time.

If you can find a wrecked donor car you can source all the bits from, so parts at half the price as new, that would be your most cost effective to go the way you want. Given that opportunity, that's the way I'd go.

The car needs to be wired for the other system i found this out the hard way. However that being said What i paid for my entire setup with extras and addons it came out to 2/3 less than a factory head unit and was exactly plug and play. It fit like a charm and has 100 more features than factory.

For all of this $1605.00, and includes a Sirus module and reverse camera. The factory NAV unit was almost 3 grand plus had to be programmed at Jeep, no Bluetooth unless you buy the uconnect module and no camera... Aftermarket is always the way to go if youre thinking about spending that much money.

Note to RobertM. Please comment about how well your bluetooth works for cellphone calls. Very interested as you'll see from my discussion far below.

Among other install thoughts and questions, I'm thinking using the Amplified Euro adaptor rather than the one Crutchfield suggests otherwise. Also, did you use the factory Sirus antenna for your AVIC SirusXM unit (if so, what adaptor did you use?), or are you now running two roof top antenna's?

As to Bluetooth, from my web surfing homework, the problem with aftermarket is that it seems no one seems to make an aftermarket head unit that does a job anywhere near as well as UConnect stock when it comes to Bluetooth phone use.

Case in point, reading the less than one month ago updated reviews on C/Net, the flagship of double din head units seems to be Pioneer AVIC series. Specifically mentioned is the Z130bt (albeit the current model is the Z140bt). So RobertM seems to represent that best alternative conclusion. Now surf the very active Pioneer aftermarket Pioneer head unit web site - avic411.com and you'll find nothing but compaints related to Bluetooth use to the point where the conclusion by more than a few is that it's is below average at best and useless at worst.

I was about to drop in a Z130bt set up into my Compass. But that homework is giving me great pause.

Update

After a bit of research, I went with an RBZ replacement head unit. It will stream bluetooth, so my Android Nav voice will play through the speakers. Since Android Nav is constantly updating and will adjust route for traffic conjection, I wouldn't expect I'd be using headunit nav anyway. Plug and play very much a bonus.

More, I just ordered a latest and greatest V.5 Lockpick for installing front and back camera's (I like the idea of parking assist for the wife) and to clean up various factory functionality lockouts. Again Plug and play a good thing.

i dont have any issue with the BT calls. the phone integrates into the radio since its an iPhone app radio from pioneer. Its designed to work with the iPhone.
