I have noticed that some Compasses have the "4x4" decal and some do not. The one I am getting does not, but it does have the little t-bar lever to turn on the locked 4 wheel drive.
So I am assuming its a 4 wheeler.

Here is a question...5 speed or CVT. I have the choice of either one...5 speed is something I know...CVT is a total mystery.

Lifts...who makes them. Or are they pretty much spacers...just need that extra space for the Yellowhead plow drifts.

What year Compass are you getting? Far as I know, and I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but the 4WD version comes with the 4X4 badge. If you're buying it used, it could be that the previous owner debadged it as that's a common mod.

As far as manual vs. CVT, I would have to say that's personal preference. I would have loved to have a manual, and funny thing was, the manual trans was standard on the Compass with the CVT being "optional." The dealers I looked at ordered theirs with the CVT, you almost have to special order a manual these days it seems, but if you're getting a Limited, you have the AutoStick feature, so it's a decent compromise.

How much lift are you looking for? A certain tire size in mind you're looking to accomodate?

The 5-speed is great, you, yourself should know if you are an "automatic" type of prefer to feel more fully in control of the machine.

After driving the 5 speed I liked it, clutch is a little questionable, felt more like a on/off switch, but it could be because the last manual I drove wsa in a 1 ton Dodge diesel...lol.
Going to try a CVT and see how I like it...getting lazy in my old age.

As to tires and lifts, a all terrain with 2 to 3 inches of lift would work.
Going to send a email to this JKS Manufacturing, had their ACO's on a XJ and loved them, going to see if they have anything for the Compass.

I think the clutch on that beast would be bigger than Compass's engine!
