Just did the rear brakes on my 2008 Compass. These had to be the easiest brakes I have ever worked on. After you take the tire off, you remove the lower caliper bolt and that's the only bolt you remove. Caliper then swings up and you can remove pads and the rotor. Nothing to it.

Good to know, glad it turned out to be an easy task! Did you upgrade the pads or stick with the OEM ones? :)

Not sure what kind was on there to begin with. I went to the auto parts store I usually deal with and got what they gave me. I did notice they were ceramic pads and I can feel the difference in the stopping power of them. I don't know if that's the pad quality or the just the fact the other ones were almost worn out.

Ceramic pads are a good choice as they leave a lot less brake dust which, if you're like me, like to keep your wheels clean! You don't get any more "life" out of them as opposed to the OEM semi-metallic, but I prefer them as well. :)

I was told the ceramic pads will wear out the rotor faster than regular pads would. Any one know if there is any truth to this?

Ceramic pads are not any tougher on your rotors than semi metallic, it's just a different contact material, but that depends on how you brake as well. In all actuality, semi metallic pads against metallic rotors vs. ceramic pads against metallic rotors, the semi metallic wear just a little faster but are more likely to scratch your rotors if any debris like rocks and such get caught there.

I see, so driving gravel roads as I do they may not be the best for me to buy.

I drive on a lot of gravel myself smokey and even though it's not time to replace my pads yet, to me, ceremics are worth the few extra dollars. At the parts store where I work, we re-surface rotors and you get a good size rock in there, it's not really going to matter what pads you're running, it's still going to be noticeable.
