My 2011 Compass Latitude 4x4 has a squeak in the rear of the vehicle over hard bumps, train tracks, etc but only in cold weather. Seems that when the temps reach 20 F or colder, I hear the noise. Last week I didn't hear it at all because it was above freezing when I was doing my driving. Cold weather moved in over the weekend and I noticed it all day long today (it sits outside while I'm at work). When it warms up again, the noise disappears. I was just wondering if anyone else has heard similar issues when the temps drop.

Your rear struts most likely causing that. I had issues like that on my front and had them replaced and now the noise is gone. Bring it back to the dealer whom ever you use for servicing. As long as they hear it they will have to replace the noisy components.

Actually, what I think it turned out to be (at least the squeak is gone for now) was that the sway bar bushings in the back needed to be greased. They've been greased now and the noise is gone. At least it seems to be at this point. I'm going to test it again tonight when the temps drop down into the single digits. I'll let it sit out and get cold again and do some driving over the spots that bring out the noise. I'll report back with my findings.

Mine is doing the same thing. I just noticed it when it got cold outside. Sound like the right rear. It does it when I go over a surface that causes the suspension to twist. Does anyone know if there is a bulletin on this.

Thanks for the info. I'll try that before I would take it to the dealer.

Does anybody know how to access the sway bar bushings in the front so they can be greased? Or do you have to take a bunch of crap apart to get access to them? Or a specific tool that would work?

If the brushings on the bar is where the squeak is. Use white lithium grease which can be sprayed around the bar. I would not use bearing grease etc. They may deteriorate the rubber if not made impervious to oil degredation.

Spraying it with lithium grease will allow the grease to get in where it needs to get without having to remove the bracket that holds the bushing down?

There are also products out there that spray on as a liquid to flow into the bushings and then set up like a grease after a short period of time. I used to have some of this but remember the name right now.

No, I have to put it on the lift at work and rotate and change oil in the next couple of weeks so I will check it then.

I just noticed that mine squeaks in cold weather also. Doesnt even need to be bitterly cold.. It was in the 40's today and it squeaked everytime i started and accelerated for the first time on straight paved roads. Not even the types of road that you folks seem to hear the squeaks at...

Its loud and annoying.. Just like the CVT tranny noise.

I am not getting squeaks. It must be 2011+ issue it seams. Add that to the list is appears if there are more of you.

I was away and driving when it was -19C last week and it was crisp and it -10 today after dropping down from +6C.

2011Compass - Was it squeaking over bumps too or just when you accelerated? I'm wondering if you're experiencing the other annoying squeak/creak that I have. It's even more obnoxious than the sway bar bushing squeak.

No squeaking over bumps..yet, but i am sure that will be next

The only time i hear the loud squeaks is when i accelerate a few times after u start my engine and then it goes away.

It must be a related problem to Lucy's thought. Any progress on it?
