I have had my new Compass for approximately 4 months now. It just keeps getting better. How is everyones gas milage? I'm currently getting about 46 mpg. I love my Jeep!

I have a diesel Compass, odometer reading is at the moment ca 14 000 km.
Fuel consumtion has been 7.5 l/100 km (31,3 MPG).
I bought my Compass in May this year, so all the driving has been in summer (i.e. between +25 C in midsummer and +5 C now, in autumn). 50% in the city and 50% on the road.

gas mileage

Nope, I thought I was not caluculating correctly either and took it to my Dodge dealer and we both sat down with receipts and mileage log. It is correct. When I first got it the gas mileage was really bad about 18-20mpg, but with every fill up it keeps getting better. I run mid grade fuel and have nitrogen in the tires as well as synthetic oil. (Don't know if that makes a difference, however, I am mostly highway as I live out of town and drive everyday approx 40 miles one way.) It's a standard and I guess I'm an average driver not too fast but not a slow poke either. The Dodge dealer said that this was about the 3rd vehicle he heard that was getting higher mileage than it was supposed to. Go figure......I'm not complaining - I love this Jeep!

Oh my! That must be a diesel Compass or your calculations are way off! :D
Or maybe it's Imperial Gallons, Not US Gallons?

Theoretically there's a possibility, that these are not miles, but kilometers per gallon... :?:

You must be driving downhill on your way to and from work    Good for you, I can only dream of getting 30 Imp mpg here in Saskatchewan.

Where are you from? Are you calculating in gallons (us or imperial) or litres, miles or kilometers, etc.? What engine do you have? I'm thinking it could be the 2.0 in a FWD configuration??

If synthetic oil will give me 10mpg, I'll switch tomorrow.

I'm getting 9-10/100km in the city and 8/100km on the highway. That is by the digital readout though. If I took the time to keep the reciepts and tracked the milage per fill, jut like Jeepers, it may come out to a different number.

Jeepers, how close is the readout vs what you calculated?

With now over 7800km on my 5-speed Limited, my averages are as follows:

11 liters per 100kms,
25.6 miles per imperial gallon,
21.4 miles per US gallon.

my brothers 5 speed partiot 4X4 has gotten low 8s per hundred kms on the highway. The G/Fs compass is usually between 8.9 and 9.5 with mixed driving (CVT).

If you are a methodical highway driver I can see getting excellent mileage. I seem to recall for 08 the overdrive gear is steeper for even better mileage. :?:

I wish the tranny came with a overdrive or 6th gear, I find 1st really short, like good for starting on hills or maybe pulling a boat, I can easily depart in 2nd on a flat road.

I find myself normally shifting at about 3000rpm where as the automatics keep the revs way lower, as well the auto's run lower on the highway.

Thats about 80 cents per liter. Thats not too bad, we're paying 1.02 a liter in Winnipeg. Thats about $3.85/gal. (taking US gallons at 3.75L)
