Hi, I'm new here. I see lots of complaints about this issue. Has anyone gotten any help from Jeep with this? It sounds expensive to have a crossmember replaced. My daughter's is rusted paper thin and needs repair quickly.

It seems to be a common problem with the 2008 Compass and there's an older thread about it here: Front crossmember and rear subframe rot

You can try contacting JeepCares on this site, or follow their suggestion.

I am sorry to hear about your recent experience with your Compass. I would advise you to bring TSB 23-012-14 to the attention of your servicing FCA dealership.

Hi Nancy,

An extended warranty was released earlier this year for 2008-2012 Calibers, Compasses, and Patriots to address corrosion in the cross members. It extends the warranty to 10 years (unlimited mileage) from the in service date of the vehicle. If your daughter has the extended warranty and her contact information is on file, she should have received notification in the mail. I would be happy to take a look at her file if you want to send a private message with her VIN and let you know if the extended warranty applies.

What is one supposed to do when the Dealer only did half of necessary work? My sister recently bought a 2007 Compass. Things look mostly fine underneath the vehicle until one takes off the rear wheels and rust through on rear crossmember is evident. The local dealer replaced the front crossmember issue in Feb of 2017 but not the rear and is declining to cover the rear due to 10 years having passed and claiming there must not have been perforations during previous inspection. The condition of the rear crossmember after only 10K mile later from their inspection makes that claim highly dubious as there is no structure to the tube on one side and thick "baclava cake like" shedding of layers on the other side that took way more than the last year to occur.
