Sometime its just a glitch in the emissions system. If you haven't driven it much after it came on. Use it and monitor your gauges that everything else is ok. The fault will clear on its own (light will go off) if the computer senses things are normal after some use.

I have had mine come on twice after gasing up at a specific station on the Compass and also my Grand Cherokee on a long highway drive. The light went off both vehicles some time later after gassing up again. I was not the gas cap which I did check in these cases. Cold weather could be messing with it as well. If you're doing your required service and air filter it not filthy it should clear. But until you get the code its responding to you're not going to be able to go further into what might, that is a might be the problem. The codes only tell you what is not determined as working correctly but not what is faulty or broken. It flags a condition and experienced tech mechanics zero in on the likely causes.

If you never lift the hood. Now would be a good time and check all the available fluid levels. the owners manual covers them all.

Mine came on the Moday of Thanksgiving

I took it to Autozone and was told that it showed something about emissions or gas cap issue. The man at Autozone said to check to see if the gas cap was tightened securely. It wasn't! But my check engine light is still on. I called a couple days later and was told that I would most likely have to drive it a couple hundred miles before the light would go out. I'll give it another week before going back to have it looked at again at Autozone. Hope yours isn't anything serious!

I have a 2018 Jeep Compass. Have had it about 1 and a half years..no problems until the start/stop light came on...I usually always try to remember to push it as soon as I start the engine. It went off when I shut the engine off. Well this morning my check engine light came on and refuses to go off. We did not get a warranty on it when we bought it! Now I don't know what to do!

Hi Marie,
We're sorry to hear about your recent concern. Your vehicle does come with a factory warranty on it which is good for 3 years/36,000 miles. If you decide to have your dealer take a look, please send our team a PM. We would be happy to connect you with a Case Specialist.
