Has anyone had problems with the car stalling? The other day I was driving, pulled up to my mailbox, got out turned off Jeep and tried to restart and it wouldn't. Tried again and it started. This happens every now and then and is kind of annoying.

Also when my Jeep isn't running I am hearing a clicking noise which seems to be coming from under the Jeep on the driver's side, but it doesn't do it all of the time, just when in park sitting in my garage I can hear it better.

Thanks.

hi Jackie1979,
its a common problem that alot of people here post but no one ever seems to get back to us when we ask questions. Since your car has so many miles on it do the basic full tune up. Oil change, oil filter, change air filter, change belts if needed, change fuel filter. And see if that does the trick. and let us know!

None of that is going to affect stalling either way. Plugs would have to be really bad to cause that especially if it start fine. But a heavily plugged air filter is worth an inspection and pulling some plugs to see how they've been burning would be worth doing. I'll give those the knod for a should do. They're easy and new plugs can be installed while at it if they've not been changed in 50k or more.

These vechicle are so heavily controlled by computerized modules that without codes to go by its virtually impossible to know unless its been trouble shot on someones elses and they've been told what the problem was. To date as "w4rh4wk" said knowone has posted back their fix to the forum. You have little choice and would have to take it to a dealer for diagnostics then go from there.

Update

Well I have done all of the things such as an oil change, air filter change, tune up. The problem is there is no check engine light on. So I took it to autozone anyways to see if they could give me a problem code. It came back saying the o2 sensor was bad. I replaced it for around $25. The old one was rusted pretty bad and was a pain to remove, but I got it. HOWEVER, the other day, same thing, the car seemed like it wanted to die when I was at a stop light. No check engine light. Does anyone think it could have anything to do with needing to have a fuel flush or having fuel injectors cleaned?? It seems like the Jeep is putting.

The other noise under the hood was the power steering pulley, so that is the next project to get it fixed.
Thanks.

i know this is old but im just digging around to try and get answers to my wifes stalling problem with her compass right now

-stalls after or while coasting to a stop and a stop sign or traffic light. usually restarts immediately or within a few minutes. has stalled three times in the past three days and also is hesitating and jerking while driving in general (but this is also sporadic)

dealer could not replicate any symptom

car has 125,000. i have done the alternator at ~85K, battery within the last year, spark plugs less than 50K miles old

maybe coil packs :dunno: or i was thinking Intake Manifold Runner Control Valve but seems others have done this with no luck

anybody have answers yet????

doing some more digging and seems there may be a fix for some people with the stalling issue related to the evap canister being clogged

if/when this happens again to my wifes car ill have her loosen the gascap and continue driving to see if that helps at all. if so it could point towards a clogged evap canister

also if it is the evap canister, the stalling issue will usually manifest after a fill up which is the case in all the times my wifes car stalled so that just food for thought...

I have a 2014 Compass Limited. Owned it since last November. It has stalled on me twice. Both times were on an incline while reversing up the incline the switching into drive in order to head down...the first time was in the snow. The second time was a few days ago (summer). Strangely enough however, I have not been able to replicate it therefore I don't worry much about it. Only have 12K on it. Anyone have come across this?

Report it to your Dealer. There has been many weird issue with the newer builds and they may have the fixes for them. If you don't you'll end up paying for it out of warranty.

Hi there I'm new to this jeep forum. And also haVing trouble with my jeep stalling. It turns over and it starts but then it just ends up dying after I start it. The lighting bolt with dashes come on. I've been getting told that i should replace the fuel filter. Should I replace the filter ? I can hear the pump activate with the humming sound. But as soon as I start the jeep up it tries to stay on but just ends up dying. I got a code P0116 for the coolant sensor. I replaced that along with spark plugs and the camshat position sensor. All the coils are fine. It also showed while being diagnosed that the ECM was on a engine timer malfunction. We erased that and reset the computer. So any help or advice would he great. Thanks!

Same Issue - 08 Jeep Compass - Rallye Edition

Hi All,

New to posting, but checked the forums frequently. Has ANYONE been able to solve this issue.

We have done the tune up, the new battery etc...seemed to be okay for awhile, but the stalling at the light or when idle for any significant period of time is occurring again constantly

Hi there - I am experiencing stalling with my Jeep Compass - 2011; 60,000 miles. Will stall when pulling up to a Stop sign or just after filling up with gas. A few months ago it also stalled while driving about 30/35 miles per hour - power steering shuts off and car dies. Never experienced anything like it! I bought the car new and have always done all the proper maintenance/oil changes, etc. Has anyone tried contacting Jeep's corporate office directly? Any suggestions much appreciated.

Melissainaustin,

Question - have you checked your battery? Part of a normal battery diagnostic will also take a look at your alternator.

Not sure if Jeeps have the same issue as other sedans - but we had a problem with an engine idle setting on one of our sedans that sounds a bit similar.

also check the battery posts for any signs of corrosion - that might be an intermittent problem too.

Hello,

My 2011 Jeep Compass stalls suddenly while I am stopped at a traffic light. I get no warning lights and I haven't had any warning lights come on. It doesn't happen when the fuel tank is full. Not sure where to look. I can say it does miss while driving. Any ideas?

Hi, New to the form.
My wife's 2011 jeep compass is stalling when stopped at the red light or stop sign. Its also sputtering when I pass 2,000 RPM. Took it to AutoZone to check the engine light. They said it was the crankshaft position sensor. Replaced in and still doing the same. Tried replacing the camshaft sensor as well and still stalling and sputtering. I'm going to try and do a tune up next to see if maybe it could be that but I wouldn't be surprised if it still did the same thing. Anyone have an answer for their stalling?

Hello, I have a 2011 Jeep Compass iss, 95,000 kilometers/59030,263 miles with a CVT transmission an I have also been having the same issue since about a month. Whenever I accelerate after stopping at a red light or a stop and taking a right, the car stalls. This morning it even happened to me despite not taking a turn. I noticed that I am not the only one having this issue. Does anybody know of a way to fix it? The parent compagny should be looking into it before someone ends up injuring themselves or dying because they stalled. I am now afraid to drive it around and leave it in the courtyard.

Jeep, please help us!
