Have a 2014 Jeep Compass. 2.4L. 161,000 miles. Lately, the temperature starts off about midscale after 10-15 minutes. Occasionally, the temp starts increasing to about 3/4 scale, never sets off the alarm but then it will gradually decrease to midscale again. It will continue to do this up and down action, again never setting off an overtemp alarm. Guessing the thermostat assy. I know this has 2 thermostats and replacing it looks like a real pain. Thanks.

Possibly a thermostat. I presume you checked the coolant level.

The faster you drive, the more air flows thru the radiator. If the temp creeps up while driving slow or stopped, it could be that one of your radiator fans is not working. You can test them by turning on your AC then popping the hood and looking at the fans. They should both be on when the AC is on.
