2017 New Compass Latitude 4x4 6spd manual. Purchased 09SEP17 brand new. Sticker was $27k and change. Went on KBB last night. Under 9,000 miles, trade value is $18,000!! Private sale is $21,000. No positive equity in this pig. At least it is reliable. Just did the 2nd oil change yesterday and not a leak anywhere. It's the only saving grace.

Sounds about right, as they were clearing the 2017 they started offering a $5,000 rebate. Not good for resale values.

In our area the 2018's have $3,000 in rebates right now.

I think 9k miles is a bit premature to say anything about reliability. Until a bunch of them successfully get to 100k miles without needing anything other than oil, brake pads, and a set of tires, I'd say the jury is still out.

Not sure what you were expecting value-wise, thats what happens when you buy new vehicles. The value never goes up. It may pace the payments we are making against them but usually drops faster than. The point of having any equity in it will be a long ways off towards the end of the loan. As for me I am leasing so we will see where we end up, I need it to still be worth more than $17,500 in 33 months for me to come out ahead. KBB is saying $24,742 to $26,841 private party on our limited as of today so we'll see...

Add to that the fact that you bought a manual. Face it, a stick shift is a thing that is instant death to resale of any vehicle. Dealers don't want them, buyers also flee the instant they see that third pedal and shifter.

The manual is a deal killer on the Compass. The Compass is a soccer mom ride and they don't like manuals. I leased our loaded Limited and they estimate the resale at 36 months with 30k milage at 20,400, sticker was 36,300.

One thing I will give the new compass is the 9 speed, it's smooth as silk and I get 9th gear all the time when cruising over 70. I have a 15 Cherokee TH and it's shifts are not as smooth and have yet to see 9th.

Yep, I got 6500 off MSRP for my 18 trailhawk when I bought it at Christmas. New cars value crashes the first year. Should stabilize some after that. With all the new saftey features in cars now, you're lucky to have 50% value after 3 years.. I also agree that a manual transmission in this car is not going to help resale value. 1 most new drivers can't even drive a stick, and 2 the market for this car is indeed a a soccer mom type vehicle. If you really wanted off road prowess where a stick might make sense you would buy a Wrangler.

Wow, glad I leased mine. Sticker is $35k and from what I learned with my GC Trailhawk, the $10k in extra options don't really matter much on a trade appraisal.

The 6speed will last longer and you are saving mpg as those 9 spd autos eat about 8 more mpg over the manual according to other mpg posts on the forum.

Sorry there is no way the manual will get you 8mpg better than the auto.

EPA says a FRONT WHEEL drive with the stick is 26 combined. 9spd with AWD is 25 combined. Sounds way more plausible than an 8MPG difference.

I'm going off what others post on here. My 4wd 6speed is up to 27 now but I drive 80% highway. Love the soccer mom post. I see plenty of hot soccer mom's in yoga pants.

People these days want a lot of electronic gizmos in their vehicles, and FCA certainly offers that. Problem is that they keep screwing it up and they take a few model years to sort out. That timeframe doesn't work anymore. Information spreads very, very quickly these days and the new Compasses are already known as being glitchy. Compounding that of course is the traditional process of the dealers attempting to 'fix' vehicles over and over, which again takes way too long by modern expectations. Imagine if say Apple came out with a new iphone that had all these problems and they dealt with the problems in this way, it would be the end of the company. No surprise that the '18s already have hefty discounts. It's a shame, really, the vehicle is just a reskin of a platform that it already in production, the engine and transmission certainly aren't anything new either, should be a very reliable vehicle and probably is, mechanically. Assuming that FCA makes it that long a 2020 Compass or later would be the ones to buy. By then they will be mostly fixed but with a horrible rep, selling at maybe 70% of MRSP.

Had to use 4wd for 3 days (about 180 miles highway) and didn't effect my mileage one bit, city driving in 4wd it will suffer a bit due to take off . I still average 25-26mpg off a tank, just crossed 3200miles on my 18 TH

Buying a new vehicle and expecting it to appreciate......or not depreciate at a warp speed down is a pipe dream.

I guess if you are looking to trade after a year or two it could matter I tend to not worry about resale value as I bought it to drive not sell =)

I did make out like a bandit when I traded in my 2012 Compass =)

27, is that supposed to be impressive? I was at 28 all of fall until it got cold and I started running the remote start every day. I have the 9 speed.

I think you two are talking the same but 2 different things.

He was as far as I could tell talking about the configuration which is a 4 wheel version of the Compass (since all but Trailhawks are available in front only). Not about mileage using 4 wheel lock (though keep in mind that the compass is really an AWD vehicle that auto engages the rear when slip is detected).

But I am getting nearly the same with my 9spd 4wd Auto.

Which I think is the point.
1-2mpg difference, maybe.
8pmg difference, probably not. Unless you are comparing two different driving conditions or driving habits.
