Vibration diagnosis

Here is a trick to diagnose and balance a driveshaft I learned at a GM training class. Take two hose clamps and attach them to the differential side of the driveshaft. Make sure the screw mechanisms are opposite each other on the shaft. Drive the vehicle and observe the vibration. Start moving the clamps slowly around the shaft a few degrees from each other, test driving each time (the screw mechanisms act like weights). If this stops the vibration, the shaft is the problem. If it fixes the problem, you can either leave the clamps on the shaft where they are, or have the shaft balanced or replaced. Note: I have fixed and fine tuned many vehicles using this method. Another quick test is to drive the vehicle on a road that causes the vehicle to go up and down. If the vibration changes as the vehicle rises and falls, the problem is caused by pinion angle. Good luck. Marty
thank you for giving me more to go with regarding my shaft-to-wheel vibration from hell. bet mine is shaft related. i can feel it clearly, like internal gears are slightly off with wheel wobble at 0-15 mph, intermittently, mostly when cold.

I hope all is well! My 2018 Compass is still plagued with a vibration in the steering wheel and center console. The dealer has replaced the tires and performed an alignment. Basically above 60 you feel the shake in the steering wheel as you get closer to 74 mph it vibrates in the steering wheel for about 3-4 seconds and then shifts to console, then back to the steering wheel and so on. I use cruise control often and find it continues up to about 82. Thoughts
Did you ever figure out what was causing this? My 2019 compass does the same thing. I’ve had all tires replaced and balanced and it did nothing. My dealership I bought it from has pretty much given up after searching for the problem off and on for 6 months.
