Winter wheels for compass sport

9428 Views 25 Replies 15 Participants Last post by  yingxuy
I want to get some winter rims for my compass sport 07'. I want to cheap out on the wheels, and try to find some used possibly steel rims. Anyone know other wheels that fit on the compass? I found the bolt patter to be 5x114.3 so im wondering if i can find any junkyard steelies to bolt up.

I went with 16" steelies and Nokian winter tires.
My Compass has Mitsubishi Grandis steel wheels for winter with 215 / 65 R 16 Nokian tyres.
I thought I would miss the look of the mags, but my son told me that the black steelies give the car a Macho look. 8) 8)

Can't see anything....
Did you buy another set of valve sensors for the steelies or not? If not, do you only get an indicator light and reminder bell at start-up or all the time?

Thanks,
For those, like me, who were wondering what is going to happen with steel wheels/winter tires installed without the tire pressure sensors:

Nothing but 2 little "ding" when starting the car and the little flat tire indicator light staying on all the time on the panel... No big deal! I just didn't want to pay the extra money to buy another set of sensors for my winter wheels and have them calibrated at the dealer. I don't regret, these things are useless anyway. I was told the indicator light only turn on when a tire has les than 12 psi!!! by that time, you'll either have an accident or the tire will be ruined...

I decided to go with 17" steelies with oem size 215/60/R17 Toyo Observe G02 Plus winter tires.

I'll post pics of the beast on winter shoes later.

While I agree with your thoughts that the sensors aren't necessary on a set of winter rims/tires, the above statement isn't true.... at least from my experience.

My wife's Compass' sensor will pick up a low tire starting at about 28 psi. I try to run them at 32 psi.

I've read similar accounts from others on here and other Patriot/Compass boards. So.... I think the dealer was blowing a little smoke at 'ya.

Enjoy the winter tires! What's the primary reason for the swap, btw? Are folks switching over to Blizzaks, etc. because they live in more ice and snow prone areas? Just curious.

Thanks for your input Compass Sport, I read that on Jeep Forums and didn't validate myself... At least it can be useful, but anynone careful enough can check tire pressure once in a while.

Here are pictures of my Compass on 17" winter wheels with Toyo Observe tires and the indicator light that stays on without the sensors.

TPMS sensor

Just bought a set of winter tires/black steelies from the US, saved some good coin. Was going to deal with the TPMS indicator light for the winter, but it hasn't come on! Either the 2010 Limited Compass computer is smart enough to realize there is no sensor at all or tirerack.com put some TPMS sensors on for free!
Heres mine rockin the flat black OEM 17's with the hankook I*pikes

Thx ffl, the rims clean up really good but I did find one tiny mark around the bolts I guess it was either me or the tire shop. That particular paint is supposed to touch up really nice so hopefully that comes out good. I got something in the works for summer rims. Something to go with my "srt" theme

unrelated but how much more umpth are you getting out of your compass with the cai and exhaust
well my g meter read 185hp when it was bone stock, so -7 to make it match the stock figures, then after the K&N, custom exhaust, oil and plugs. then tested on the same road and same conditions the g meter read 217hp, so -7 again and the estimated power would be 210hp. of course i wont know forsure till i put it on the rollers.
