Battery not charging

2011 latitude 4wd 2.4l 238,988 miles

Battery is not charging. At the battery I'm only getting battery voltage. When I test the post on the back of the alternator while it's running I'm getting 14.46v. I know I have a short in that wire. My question is does that wire go straight to the battery or is it part of the starter supply terminal?

you could also have a ground problem,when your testing the battery voltage are you touching the ground at the battery with the engine running or where the battery ground cable is connected to the body,and after checking the wiring diagram on alldata you should also have a high amperage fuse on the pos wire before it gets to the battery

It ended up being to cable from the alternator to the battery. I made one at work
