Uconnect Screen Malfunction (2018 Jeep Compass Limited)

I’ve got a concern and a question to follow up.

Through CarMax, I recently purchased my 2018 Jeep Compass with 42,500 miles on it. I’ve had the car for about 10 days now, all has been fine with the exception of what happened yesterday.
My uconnect screen has completely malfunctioned. Not for any particular reason... It’s a young car!
I’m getting so many streaks on the screen and it’s difficult to operate screen functions as well as use apple CarPlay for my navigation due to this brand new issue.
To those who have dealt with this before, what should I expect to do, request to be done, as well as make sure happens when I bring my car in to get this issue looked at?
Thank you!

That happened to mine, and the only fix was total radio unit replacement (which the dealership did under warranty).

Not saying this has anything to do with it, but do/did you have any sort of device plugged into the OBDII diagnostics port while you've had the car? Such as a driver safety monitoring device from your insurance agency or a diagnostics scan tool of any sort? Like I said I'm pretty sure its not related, just curious.

This issue has been known to happen on a few Jeep/Dodge/Chrysler cars, but no real explanation for what the root cause is. As far as I know replacement has been the only fix for anyone who has encountered this. My buddy with an engineering degree thinks its something like "defective V-chips", ie something that cannot be repaired, only replaced (the whole unit).

I would take the issue up with CarMax.

This is extremely helpful, thank you. Did you have any issues that popped up as a result of a total replacement?

I had my phone plugged in via the USB port for navigation. But it’s designed for that! Just quite frustrating honestly. I’m taking it into CarMax on Wednesday.

Hi! My wife's car just had the same exact problem. What did you end up doing? Her car is also out of warranty, I already took the unit apart to look for evident loose connections or burn marks but everything seemed fine. The weird part is that the screen goes back to normal sometimes. Thanks in advance.

Hey there. What you’re describing is exactly what was happening to mine. It would go back to normal for maybe half a day and then it would malfunction yet again.

I took my car to the shop and they walked me through how, evidently, this is an extremely common issue. That was annoying, but it does mean they are very familiar with how to fix it.

The course of action they took for my repair was to just take the entire console out, re-solder some old connection points and install a new one. Since this repair, I have not had any more issues with the screen itself. (Fingers crossed.)

So because this is out of warranty I paid $473.00 for the new radio plus $145 for service charge . They kept my car for a week  but had not done any thing to it when I did call asking about it they told me the radio is on back order so I had to pay upfront for the radio and when the radio is in I will only pay for the service change. If you live in Michigan do not go to Redford Snethkamp Chrysler dealership so unprofessional. What I do not understand why isn't this fixed where buyers are not going through this problem.
