These cars are plagued with electrical gremlins. We bought our 2018 in December and had it in our possession for a grand total of 4 days. The rest of the time has been with the dealer. They've been working directly with FCA engineers and they honestly have no idea what's going on with these things. Another member of the forum seemed to have luck after they replaced 2 of the 7 "terminal chips" in his. Most of us seem to have the issues in colder weather. Turned out the plastic housing on those tiny terminal chips were shrinking in cold weather, causing them to lose connection intermittently.

FCA's denying that's the issue on mine. I have my doubts that they actually checked them, or want to pay for it.

My case manager was SUPPOSED to call me today to discuss Lemon Law or a trade, but never did, nor did she ever pick up or return my calls.

They're paying for a rental this whole time (if you're having issues get a Case Manager and make FCA pay for a rental. Do NOT settle for a 2WD dealer loaner). And they were supposed to reimburse me for our monthly payments for the auto loan, but I have yet to hear or see anything on that front.

I'm not happy. Enough's enough. They better give us one that works or they'll be losing a family of longtime Mopar owners.

im suprised all you who are having problems are talking about having jeep pay for a rental. when i took mine in, i got a choice of loaners and the vehicle had 4wd in it. i suppose not all dealers are alike

Same issues in my brand new 2018 compass. Rear window rolls up and down by its self, Engine running screen comes on, door open dash alert comes on, interior lights turn and and off by them selves, etc. Been to the dealer 3-4 times already and every time, the issue stops for a few weeks and then comes back, sometimes even worse than before. They replaced the master window switch and the OBD, but the issues keep coming back. Was told this morning b the dealership service dept. that Chrysler/Jeep tries sending an update out to all vehicles and that it caused many electrical problems for many owners. I find it strange that this would do that to mine since I have had these issues since the start. Not sure what to do as I really like the car, but paying for a brand new broken vehicle that I cannot use is ridiculous. I paid a lot for this car and am very disappointed.
Anyone have any luck with similar issues?
We regret to hear this, nscola, as we understand the importance of having a reliable ride. We would like to hear more about this and make sure it well documented within our systems. Please send us a private message with your VIN, phone number and current mileage.

Welcome to the 2017/2018 Jeep Compass electrical issues club!!!

These problems definitely all sound related and they definitely seem to be the same “communication issues” my Jeep was having. The terminal chip replacement has so far worked for the major issues, but it still has some minor electrical problems that are more so annoying than anything else (hvac acts temperamental, turn signals no longer make the clicking noise).

The major issues mine had were found to be related to bad terminal chips. These are computer chips about the size of a thumb nail with tiny pins that make contact and facilitate communication between the various systems of the vehicle. Mine had some bad terminals. When it was cold, the microscopic amount of shrinking would keep certain pins from making contact and those systems would go haywire. When the vehicle would warm up, the chip expands and the pins make contact again bringing the systems back online. When everything is warmed up and back online the vehicle tests fine, so the service tech can’t see anything is wrong. There should be a STAR case out there on mine that other dealerships can see. The problem is accessing these terminals involved tearing apart the vehicle and is very labor intensive, so nobody wants to do this right away.

Between my wife and I, we have had 7 Jeeps going back to a 1997 XJ Cherokee. What do they say? The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result?

Oh and I’m still getting about 14 mpg ... I’m a conservative driver who normally gets well above the epa mileage on the sticker.

All I can say is good luck to you and don’t let them try saying resetting the system or a software update is the fix. Mine had to go through a complete rewire of the wiring harness and replacement of 3 of 7 terminals to get to this point.

Not all dealerships have comparable loaners. Some small dealerships might only have one or two loaner cars at all and they might be out with other customers. I got a Dodge Dart for a loaner which was unacceptable. Luckily they were eventually able to get me in a Cherokee, but it still wasn’t 4wd. I’m more easy going so I didn’t make a stink, but technically they owe you a comparable vehicle, so if they don’t have one, they need to rent one for you.

Jeep Compass 2018 electricla issues

Hello Everyone from another side of Atlantic , this is from INdia, bought an 2018 Jeep Compass and it has only 1200KM and facing similar issues ..One day while backing up , the rev camera stopped working, HVAC stopped working, Traction control light comes on .. and then I get the Service message ..

the vehicle is in dealership for last 2 days, they are looking at the each sensors , I have escalated this to FCA india also.

Does anyone found the solution to these electrical problem ? What is the root cause for this..

This is the 3rd time I have taken my 2018 Jeep Compass to Reedman Toll since I purchased it in November 2017. They run the diagnostics and tell me everything is working properly and the only way they can know what's happening with it is to bring it to them as the problem occurs.

My complaints are:
My fan turns on to full blast with the front defroster on when I had left the car climate off when I got out of the car. This has occurred in cold and warm weather now.
The mileage has changed itself from miles to kilometers.
The time has changed itself to military time from standard time.
My set phone contacts disappeared for 3 days, then suddenly restored themselves.
The car is sluggish at best and hesitates when I push the gas to accelerate especially on a highway.
The car doesn't stop when in contact with gravel or dirt when attempting to come to a complete stop.
The car is consistently bumpy and not a smooth ride.

Driving this vehicle has become a nightmare and a chore. To get the car to any decent acceleration takes more physical effort than any other vehicle I have ever encountered. Is anyone else having these problems? The dealership has not been any help and has no solutions to fix any of these problems because they can't replicate them. Please help! Right now I am driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee 2018 rental and it is so easy to drive. It's a smooth acceleration and has no hesitation.

I had the exact same issue with mine - 2017 Jeep Compass - window was going up and down, locks were locking on and off and they found that the door was corroded after they had taken it apart at 1 year old. They charged me over $3,000 to repair and would not take any responsibility for it (was out of warranty due to long commute)

We just bought a 2018 Jeep Compass (17,000 miles) for my daughter and our problems started with the check engine light and now has escalated to issues such as multiple error codes alarming on the display panel, the car wont change gears, won't start, lost its power steering and a few other issues. When the car got to the dealership it had 62 error codes and has been there since before Christmas. They are still trying to troubleshoot the issue, but think it is a module or wiring issue. Not looking good for the Jeep!

So about a week ago I was backing out of a parking space and the backup camera didn?t need turn on. The touch screen was blank and didn?t come on for about a mile. Later that day I start it up ... no backup cam, low fuel light on when I have a full tank, and service engine warning light comes on. I take it to the dealership the next day and they say ?something tripped a circuit, we reset it and it?s a working fine now. Four days later all the same problems occurred again ... they clearly didn?t fix the problem. Oh boy electrical issues!
I have been having about every electrical problem known to man with my 2018 Jeep Compass Latitude 4x4. I put it in the shop at the dealership where I bought it and refused to pick it up until; totally solved and fixed. I have read the many complaints and horror stories about this particular vehicle. It took 6 months and finally it's fixed and home as of yesterday. Problem was a wiring harness located in the rear bumper improperly positioned by Chrysler was rubbed until the wires inside the harness frayed and started arcing. was not visible during any teats and visual inspections. Problem was found after the technician opened the wiring harness and found the short and fixed it. Now for the first time in months the car is running like new again. Hope this helps many others with Jeep Compass electrical problems. Wire harness in rear bumper caused the entire car to go completely haywire in all systems. CHECK FOR FRAYED WIRES IN WIRING HARNESS IN REAR BUMPER!!!. Good luck to all of you and hope this solves many problems for many people.

After 6 long months of endless tests and visual inspections of the entire electrical system and battery changes and Body Control Module replacement to no avail, on my 2018 Jeep Compass Latitude 4x4, the discovery of the gremlins is solved. Chrysler mounted a wiring harness in the rear bumper of the Compass in a position that the harness gets rubbed. The rubbing caused frays to occur and electrical shorting and arcing had been occurring. It took the technician actually opening the wire harness and inspecting the individual wires inside the harness to find the problem. Once fixed and repositioned where it hopefully will not get rubbed again, the car is running like new again and no more electrical gremlins. Hope this helps many people and fix many problems.

Can you show us the specific location of the harness rubbing issue? Thanks!
My apologies, I do not know the specific location of the harness. The technician only told me in the rear bumper. However the report the tech wrote sated (Can 6 positive circuit D17 orange color) had been rubbing on bumper causing a single strand of wire to touch bumper and ground out system. They had removed the bumper and inspected the wiring many times. Only after they cut open the harness they found and fixed the problem. I hope this helps.

Also just read in the report that circuit P711 in the rear bumper had a bent pin. once these two issues were fixed the car is back to normal.

If they reset the computer and the problem went away, it could be a systems problem and not really physical. This is just a guess. Did they say anything when you told them it appeared again?
It could be the wiring harness…perhaps they’ll change it for you…the harnesses could be riddled with shorts…or the fuse banks…it is however so mysterious this little truck of horrors…good luck…mine’s got a starting issue…oh well…this is why I drink…lol

Oh so I have no clue why the title of my post says ?problem solved? ... since I didn?t type that and the problem definitely isn?t solved ... predictive text on my phone must have sabotaged me without me realizing it!
I know this is an old post, but just saw that and edited out "solved." We hate to mislead people.

Then again, @Bobby from Barstow seems to have found a solution to his problem, explained in post #32. @Bobby from Barstow you might start a new thread with your solution. That's what people come here for. (y)
