I just wanted to point out how poorly written this software download process is! I can see that a lot of customers have still never received the update, and other who received the the update had failed updates and are in limbo on when they will ever see an update! Are they going to need to wait another year to get software that should of been fixed months ago? Jeep has a Website designed for customers to put in their vehicle SN but it doesn’t eventually apply to this newer Uconnect 5.0 systems because Jeep is too stingy too really help! This is why I and many others will never by an Stellantis made vehicle again!

I got the update today but it failed. I guess I was in a bad area for reception. However, the update is not coming back. Is there anything I have to do to get the update again? It’s not automatically coming back. I even tried Wifi and still nothing. What do you do if you get the notice that the update failed? Wait until it comes again? Thanks.

Also, do I need to have Wifi on for the update?
Hi Starshift,

I'm sorry to hear the update failed! The built-in cellular modem in your vehicle assists with receiving the update, so Wi-Fi is not required to receive any over-the-air updates. However, please send us a message with your VIN and we'll make sure to escalate this to the proper teams for you.

Does this mean that Jeep will give Starshift a warning before the update comes to their vehicle so they can make sure that they are in an area of good cellular reception? When we started getting our update, we have just bought groceries at Walmart and when we started the vehicle the screen was already showed 20% progress. We had to make a decision to drive home with groceries that needed put in the fridge or wait 20 minutes! Fortunately for us home was not that far away, and the update progressed while we were driving, and it was successful! This is why Jeep should allow customers to request the update when it is best for them!

I think I remember seeing a setting in uconnect that said " allow automatic updates" With that set you would not get propted to allow the update, it would just go ahead and load. I think that might be why some people get propted and with others it just starts downloading on its own.

I found "Enable Software downloads over Wi-Fi" with mine Checked. Maybe this is why I got my software without any prompts? But I also find this confusing because I always thought it means that I must be connected to a WI-FI source to receive the updates? This is another example of confusing update procedures since I guess this is allowing updates over Cellular not Wi-Fi. So, should everyone uncheck this square if they want to be notified before getting an Update?

Today is Feb 3rd and as I told everyone I got the update yesterday and know after driving continually for 2.5 hours in temperatures ranging from 17-36 Degrees, I can report back that the update seemed to work great for the volume Fading Issue! Everyone should notice a few other changes including the lighter background (which my wife liked) and the much longer volume scale when adjusting the volume! We also did not have an issue with the Crash Avoidance System suddenly turning off!

I also want to apologize to Jasmine, George and Steph about how much of a pessimist I was that this update would take care of all the issues! More testing still needs to be done but so far so good!
Supper Sooner is it still working or are you having any other issues?

So far, I have not had any additional issues. We have now traveled 3 times for longer than 2 hours with starting temps in the 30's and the sound did not fade away, and we are finally appreciating all 13 speakers of the Alpine Sound system Also, the Crash Avoidance system has not suddenly turned off! I actually feel lucky to get the update on 2-2-2023 with others having update issues! After not feeling comfortable planning vacations we are finally making plans!

I am anxiously awaiting my update. I wish there was a way to get an ETA.

Hmmm. my dealership said to have it checked. Did you have yours unchecked?
This is why Jeeps software update system is very confusing to the average layman! I had the box checked and always made sure that my Jeep had the password to my home 1 Gig Speed Wi-Fi! But when I scanned for updates in my garage, nothing ever showed up on my screen? But we were told by Jeep Cares that when you uncheck the box the update will still show up over the cellular network! It just seems like a terrible system that forces customers to be in the Dark on when and if you will ever get an update!!!!

Does anybody miss the old AM radios with 5 plastic buttons for presets and a single speaker in the center of the dashboard? Life used to be so simple! :(
No, I do not miss my 8-track and cassette tapes that sometimes got stuck and didn't play correctly! And no, I don't miss trying to find an OTA AM OR FM station that I could pick up consistently! I honestly love streaming my music that is saved on my iPhone so that all the music I love is always with me! But I can't stand poorly written software technology and people who thought we would not like to control our ability to update the software on a vehicle we are paying for and and should have fixed 10-12 months ago!

I have a 1965 Mustang with its original 5 button, AM radio and center speaker. It works great but there are no AM music stations here in Detroit anymore 😂

can we circle back to this post please. Can someone confirm if the wifi box needs to be unchecked? Mine is checked and I haven’t received the update as yet. For those who received the update, wasyour wifi box unchecked?

I will call the Jeep Uconnect Support number at (877) 855-8400 tomorrow and hopefully get a definitive answer!

I called Jeep Uconnect customer service today and they directed me to Page 112 to 117 in the Jeep Owner Radio manual, and it says this:

"Over-the-air software updates do not use the Wi-Fi hotspot data within the vehicle, and can be completed by a home, or similar, Wi-Fi network connection."

Which I pointed out is still confusing to anyone reading these pages, when talking to the Jeep rep she still said updates came from satellite, but when I questioned her, she corrected herself and said the updates come over the cellular as long as you have a subscription to Jeep Connected services?

I'm still confused!!!

On page 112 it talks about this:

"TELEMATICS MODULE UPDATES NOTE: Be sure to accept updates in a timely fashion to assure you are using the most up-to-date software. Over-the-Air Module Updates The Uconnect 5/5 NAV has the ability for over-the-air module updates to the system. NOTE: Over the air updates do not use Wi-Fi and use data provided from the vehicle. When a module over the air update is available for the system, a pop-up will appear on the radio stating new module updates are ready for the Uconnect system.

NOTE: Updates for the modules of the vehicle can only take place when the vehicle is fully off. Update Now When the update software pop-up appears on the radio, press the Update Now button to update the software immediately. The update will take place when the vehicle is fully off. Schedule Update Use the Schedule Update option to set a different time for the update to take place using the touchscreen. Use the up and down arrows on the touchscreen to input a desired time to set a scheduled update. The update will happen during scheduled time when the vehicle is fully off."

So, I guess this answers the question that you don't need a Check mark in the box to get Telematics Module Update.
